Depending on the vehicle, the charging port location and plug type would vary.
Charging port:
This port is usually on the left (driver) side, in the front or the rear, with some exceptions. The port door usually has a plug symbol and should be easy to locate. See below for the most common port locations by EV model.
Charging port location | Common EV models |
Left side front | Chevy Bolt EV, Chevy Bolt EUV, Hyundai Kona, Nissan LEAF, Kia Niro |
Left side rear | Polestar 2 |
Right side rear | Volkswagen ID.4 |
Plug type or connector:
Once you pop open the charging port, you must pick the appropriate connector. Most Non-Tesla EVs work with CCS/ Combo plugs, with Nissan Leaf being the exception, which only works with CHAdeMO plugs. If you have a Tesla, you could use a CCS adapter to access any charger. Some charging stations also have Tesla’s connectors available.
Plug type or Connector | Common EV models |
CCS/ Combo | All non-Tesla EV models |
CHAdeMO | Nissan LEAF |
Tesla Connector | All Tesla models |
